UK Supermarkets intensify 25% off wine deals as regular summer promotion gains traction
Supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s are stepping up their recurring 'buy six, save 25%' wine events, making it easier for shoppers to access better-value bottles amid ongoing promotions.
Shoppers hunting for a cheaper bottle for a dinner party or gift are once again being pushed towards the supermarkets’ recurring "buy six, save 25%" wine events. The strongest offers currently centre on Tesco and Sainsbury’s, both of which have confirmed summer runs, while other chains continue to use the promotion more selectively. In practice, the deals usually apply to mixed cases, can include sparkling wine as well as still, and often stack with existing markdowns, making them one of the more useful ways to cut the cost of a larger shop.
Sainsbury’s has confirmed its latest promotion for deliveries between 16 September and 23 September 2025, with Nectar card holders able to claim 25% off selected wines, champagne and sparkling beverages when buying six or more bottles. The retailer’s terms exclude lower-priced bottles, small formats, fortified and boxed wines, as well as Scotland, and cap purchases at 36 bottles. WinesDirect, meanwhile, says the next Sainsbury’s offer is due from 15 July 2026 to 21 July 2026, with the discount also applying to bottles already reduced.
Tesco’s own wine list shows a similar event running from 15 July 2026 to 27 July 2026, again requiring a Clubcard and a minimum of six bottles. The offer covers a broad range of labels, from prosecco to red and sparkling wines, and excludes certain formats, Express stores and Scotland. Decanter has noted that Tesco’s promotion now appears more regularly than a simple holiday special, turning it into a dependable route to buy better-value bottles without waiting for Christmas or Easter.
Other supermarkets are less predictable. ASDA and Morrisons still use 25% wine events, but their timings are harder to forecast and the offers tend to appear in shorter bursts. Waitrose continues to run occasional online promotions through its cellar site, while Ocado has offered the discount in recent months with a lower cap on the number of bottles. Marks & Spencer, by contrast, has not been a consistent participant in recent years, and Lidl and Aldi are not known for regular six-bottle discount events.
