The Judging Process

The Quality Food Awards are renowned throughout the industry for their rigorous and stringent judging process.

Our judging panel is comprised of a variety of respected food experts to bring the widest pool of knowledge possible to the judging sessions, a long-standing and highly regarded tradition which sets the Quality Food Awards apart; this ensures that you can trust that your product will be judged by the best in the industry.

Once again we will have an expert kitchen team headed up by Bridget Colvin and Gemma Stoddart, both of whom bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the judging process. Together the pair have worked alongside celebrity chefs, behind the scenes on well-known TV shows, as well as writing recipes, developing exciting new products, teaching and of course private dining.

Entering the Quality Food Awards

When you enter the Quality Food Awards, the following things always happen:

  1. We look after your product very carefully – we store it the way you tell us to and if it needs cooking our professional and experienced kitchen team ensure your instructions are followed to the letter.

  2. Our team of knowledgeable and enthusiastic judges assess all aspects of your product – not just flavour but also aroma, appearance, value for money, degree of innovation, clean ingredients list, packaging design, sustainability and more!

  3. Every judge notes their comments on your product - these are collated and reported back to you. Many entrants tell us that receiving impartial informed feedback is one of the key benefits of entering the Qs and has lead to product reformulation.

  4. The Chair of the judging panel initiates a debate on the merits of your product - find out more about our Chair of Judges, Simon Wright here.

  5. The panel decides whether your product should be shortlisted for an award - and whether that award should be Bronze, Silver or Gold. Every year we tweak and refine the process but our commitment to only awarding a Q to great-tasting products remains. This year will be no different.
