Scottish Seaweed Co. partners with Aldi UK to promote sustainable seaweed snacks
The Scottish Seaweed Co. has partnered with Aldi UK to stock its award-winning Seaweed Chips, aiming to promote seaweed as a nutritious and sustainable food source.
The grocery retail sector in the UK is experiencing exciting developments, particularly with the recent announcement from The Scottish Seaweed Co. (SHORE) regarding a new partnership with one of the country's largest supermarket chains, Aldi UK. SHORE has secured a deal to stock its award-winning Seaweed Chips across all Aldi stores in the UK, marking a significant milestone in promoting seaweed as a sustainable food source.
The agreement comes after a successful promotional phase in Aldi Scotland, where SHORE Chips were well-received by customers. These seaweed snacks will be featured in Aldi’s middle aisle as part of the Veganuary initiative, which encourages consumers to explore plant-based options during January. The promotion will commence on December 29th, with SHORE’s award-winning 80g Sweet Sriracha flavour being offered at a special price of £1.49, alongside the newly launched 80g Salt & Balsamic variant.
Keith Paterson, Co-founder of SHORE, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted that Aldi UK has chosen to feature our Shore Chips for Veganuary. With the new year being a time for healthy resolutions, it is the perfect opportunity to try something new that not only supports a healthier lifestyle but also contributes to a more sustainable world, all while delivering fantastic taste.”
The chips are crafted using locally sourced Scottish seaweed, which is considered a regenerative food source rich in crucial nutrients, including iodine, dietary fibre, and antioxidants. This initiative not only highlights the health benefits of consuming seaweed but also underscores SHORE's commitment to sustainable food practices.
SHORE has received notable recognition for its products, having garnered multiple accolades including multiple Quality Food Awards.
The collaboration with Aldi UK, the Quality Food Awards Retailer of the Year 2024, is expected to expand SHORE's reach, encouraging consumers to adopt seaweed as a sustainable and nutritious food choice. This partnership exemplifies a growing trend within the grocery retail sector, where chains are increasingly prioritising sustainability and health-conscious product offerings.
This announcement not only reflects SHORE's dedication to enhancing the public's awareness of sustainable food sources but also aligns with broader industry movements among various major UK supermarket retailers, including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Waitrose, Lidl, and Ocado, who are continually developing new initiatives and product launches in response to consumer demand for healthier and more environmentally friendly options.
