Tesco warns Clubcard members to use £17 million in vouchers before end of May
Tesco is urging its Clubcard members to check and use their expiring vouchers worth around £17 million before they lapse at 11.59pm on 31 May, with options including restaurant discounts and travel deals to maximise rewards.
Tesco is urging Clubcard members to check their accounts before the end of May, with about £17 million in vouchers due to expire on 31 May. The warning matters because Tesco Clubcard vouchers are issued quarterly and remain valid for two years from the date they are sent, meaning vouchers issued in May 2024 are now reaching their final day of use. According to Tesco’s own guidance, unspent vouchers lose their value after 11.59pm on the deadline.
Shama Wilson, Tesco’s group membership and loyalty director, said the company was facing a particularly large round of expiries and encouraged shoppers to look for ways to use the vouchers before they lapse. Among the options she highlighted were restaurant discounts, days out, railcards and hotel bookings, which Tesco says can help customers stretch the value of their rewards during the half-term period.
Tesco says 150 Clubcard points convert into a £1.50 voucher, with points earned on grocery shopping and through services such as Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile. The retailer also says vouchers can be spent in store or exchanged with reward partners, with the value often doubled and, in some cases, tripled. Tesco’s current reward scheme includes a number of restaurant partners, among them ASK Italian, Bella Italia, Frankie & Benny’s, Prezzo Italian, Zizzi, Las Iguanas and PizzaExpress.
Consumer advice site MoneySavingExpert has also reminded shoppers that Clubcard vouchers can be checked and, in some cases, extended if used in time. It has previously flagged similar expiry deadlines, including a separate round of vouchers that lapsed in late 2024, and says the simplest safeguard is to review the Clubcard account before the cutoff date rather than leaving vouchers to expire unused.
