JJ Foodservice unveils a dedicated Healthier Catering microsite supporting restaurants and caterers in sourcing nutritious, locally produced, and environmentally friendly ingredients, complemented by partnership incentives to promote menu reformulation.

According to The Grocer, JJ Foodservice has unveiled a dedicated Healthier Catering microsite aimed at helping restaurants and caterers source ingredients that are more nutritious, locally produced and environmentally considerate. The online hub aggregates products designed to support menu reformulation and meet rising demand for healthier dish choices.

The platform highlights a broad assortment of items including wholemeal and high-fibre ingredients, plant-based and vegan alternatives, grains and pulses, and free-from options, alongside certified and locally sourced seafood and packaging with lower environmental impact. Company sustainability material also emphasises accredited sourcing such as Marine Stewardship Council-certified fish and a move toward biodegradable packaging as part of a wider environmental pledge.

To boost adoption among London operators, JJ Foodservice has teamed up with the Healthier Catering Commitment for London to offer a 10% discount on selected lines to eligible HCC Award holders. The HCC, administered by London boroughs, is designed to tackle obesity by supporting food businesses to offer options with reduced sugar, salt and fat and by recognising outlets that meet its standards.

“We want to make it easier for businesses to choose nutritious, local, and fresh options – that’s why we’ve put them all in one place,” said JJ Foodservice chief sales officer Baris Kacar. Tower Hamlets public health programmes lead Alice Bimpong described the move as “an important partnership with high street food providers, including fast food takeaways, restaurants, and cafés. It provides a valuable opportunity for businesses to receive guidance, increased visibility, and formal recognition for their efforts to prepare and serve food with reduced levels of sugar, salt, and fat.”

The launch sits alongside JJ Foodservice’s wider Planet Plan, the company’s corporate responsibility framework that commits to sourcing higher-welfare and certified products, promoting locally produced meat and seafood, and reducing plastic through alternative packaging. The plan explicitly references collaborations with local healthier-eating accreditation schemes to encourage independent caterers to offer more sustainable meal choices.

Separately, JJ Foodservice has been working with Hertfordshire County Council to support the Herts Responsible Food Award, offering incentives such as 10% discounts on initial orders to entice businesses that have not bought from the supplier recently. The council partnership mirrors the London initiative by linking commercial incentives with formal recognition schemes to nudge foodservice operators towards healthier, lower-impact procurement.

Industry observers say combining accreditation-led incentives with visible, curated product ranges could lower barriers for smaller operators seeking to reform menus without large cost burdens, though successful uptake will depend on clear communication, competitive pricing and logistical support for venues making ingredient or recipe changes.
