Aldi launches larger magnum of popular rosé, offering better value for summer gatherings
Aldi expands its rosé range with a magnum-sized version of Le Petit Poulet Rosé, aiming to attract groups seeking value and convenience during warm-weather occasions, with the larger bottle priced to undercut buying two standard bottles.
Aldi is widening the appeal of one of its recent wine hits by releasing a magnum-sized version of Le Petit Poulet Rosé, giving shoppers a larger bottle at a price the supermarket says undercuts buying two standard bottles separately. The 1.5-litre format, branded Le Grand Poulet Rosé Magnum, goes on sale across the UK from 6 July and is priced at £11.99.
The move builds on the strong reception for the original Le Petit Poulet Rosé, which Aldi introduced as a budget-friendly alternative to the much-discussed "Chicken Wine", La Vieille Ferme. The drinks trade publication The Drinks Business said the new release follows the success of the smaller bottle, which has helped turn Aldi’s own-label rosé into a recognisable summer staple.
Aldi describes the wine as pale peach-pink, with citrus and red berry aromas and a fresh, dry finish. The supermarket is clearly pitching the magnum at warm-weather occasions such as barbecues and garden parties, where a bigger bottle is likely to appeal to groups looking for value as well as convenience. The Independent reported that the magnum offers better value than two 75cl bottles, while the publication also noted its nationwide availability from 6 July.
The launch comes as Aldi continues to lean on wine as a major draw for shoppers. In June, the retailer said it had picked up more than 50 medals across the International Wine Challenge and International Wine & Spirit Competition, with awards spanning reds, whites, prosecco and champagne. Among the highlighted bottles were Specially Selected Chilean Viognier, Chilean Pinot Noir Reserva and Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, reinforcing Aldi’s claim that it can combine low prices with credible quality.
