Compass Group UK & Ireland announces the formation of Foodbuy Group, consolidating its procurement divisions and creating the largest group purchasing organisation in the sector, with over £2 billion purchasing power. This strategic move aims to enhance operational efficiency, value, and job creation across foodservice industries.

Compass Group UK & Ireland has announced a significant expansion of its procurement arm, Foodbuy, which has now evolved into the Foodbuy Group (UK & I), recognised as the industry's largest group purchasing organisation (GPO). This reorganisation aims to streamline operations and enhance value for client partners across the foodservice sector, with a combined purchasing power exceeding £2 billion across more than 70 categories.

The Foodbuy Group encompasses a variety of independently operated businesses, including Regency Purchasing Group, Equinoxe, EF-Group, Zero Procure, and TheProcurementCo. These divisions are tailored to specific sub-sectors such as Pubs and Restaurants, Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), Casual Dining, Education, Health and Care, as well as Hotels, Travel, and Leisure. This strategic alignment allows for increased agility and a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs within each sector.

In addition to the sector specialists, the Foodbuy Group maintains a dedicated NHS Supply Chain team and continues to serve as the sole supplier for its parent company, Compass Group UK & Ireland. The procurement group prides itself not only on delivering competitive pricing and transparency but also on upholding supply chain integrity and safety.

Karl Atkins, CEO of Foodbuy Group (UK & I), articulated the advantages of this merger, stating, “We’re thrilled to offer our partners the best of both worlds – the benefits of scale from Foodbuy Group, and the operational sub-sector knowledge from Foodbuy UK & I’s independently run businesses who truly understand them.”

Under the leadership of Alex Demetriou, CEO of Foodbuy UK & I, the newly restructured organisation is anticipating a period of growth amidst ongoing industry challenges. Demetriou remarked, “The creation of Foodbuy Group is hugely exciting and exceptionally well-timed,” emphasising that the consolidation of purchasing power will enhance the value offered to partner clients.

This restructuring has also led to job creation, with 16 positions already filled and more roles currently being advertised across the UK. This growth offers suppliers and brand owners increased opportunities to collaborate, enhance their innovation and development objectives, and establish direct relationships with operators.

Through its extensive network of over 700 supply partners and a team of more than 400 subject matter specialists, Foodbuy Group is positioned to provide comprehensive support in data analytics, culinary services, and sustainability initiatives, fortifying its role as a pivotal organisation within the foodservice industry.
